A food forest, also called a forest garden, is a diverse planting of edible plants that attempts to mimic the ecosystems and patterns found in nature. Food forests are three dimensional designs, with life extending in all directions – up, down, and out. - Project Food Forest
Our Vision
We're aiming to offer an opportunity for the local community to purchase affordable fruits, berries and herbs that have been grown locally, seasonally and without unnecessary chemicals.
We're also going to be busy creating herbal remedies from medicinal plants grown and foraged on the land to help with various ailments, these products will be listed on Herbal page.
We will grow uncommon varieties like the Blue sausage shrub, Paw Paw fruit and star shaped apples, giving people a chance to experience new flavors!
In the future we will be offering open days and workshops as the forest garden matures.
Ultimately our aim is to create a haven for wildlife and humans too!
The path that led us here
After years of travelling and seeing different countries approaches to growing food, we came
to the conclusion that a self sustaining system like that of a forest garden is not only the most in line with natural cycles but also the most reliable and creative way to ensure food security for future generations.
Forest gardens are food-producing systems which seek to emulate natural woodland ecosystems as closely as possible. They consist of mainly perennial plants which are agriculturally productive or useful, growing as they would in the wild.
In a forest garden plants are stacked as in a natural forest or woodland. While this structure is universal, each forest or woodland is uniquely composed of species that are specific to its climate and location.
